I've lived most of my life feeling like I'm obliged to say yes to things. From going out drinking with my mates to making work commitments that are taking me away from quality time with my family. Our culture has conditioned us to feel guilty when we say no to things but what we really need to do is respect our boundaries.

Saying yes to things is requires us to say no to everything else, what are you losing here? Apart from opportunity cost you are also loosing the ability to make the decisions you really want to make, at the pace you want to make them.

So next time you are expected to say yes to something you don't want to do, maybe say no instead. It's not as scary as you think.
